Jo Se-ho Opens Up About Taking Medication and Going to Therapy

Jo Se-ho has revealed he’s currently undergoing psychiatric treatment and taking medication, hoping to encourage others to prioritize mental health. During the November 26 episode of tvN’s You Quiz on the Block, mental health professional Dr. Lee Kyung-joon joined as a guest and talked about the psychological struggles faced by many office workers, especially in highly-competitive environments.

As the conversation turned more personal, Jo Se-ho candidly shared his own experience. “At first, I was scared to go to therapy,” he admitted. “But I thought maybe going to the hospital would help, and it has allowed me to live a healthier life.” He added that he speaks openly about it now, saying, “I go to therapy and I take medication.” His honesty aims to break the stigma often associated with mental health treatment in Korea.

Why it matters

Jo’s revelation adds to a growing number of Korean celebrities speaking out about mental health, an issue still considered taboo in many professional and societal circles. Dr. Lee noted that many middle-aged workers, especially those in managerial roles, often suppress their emotions and deny feeling depressed—even when they’re clearly struggling. By being transparent, Jo Se-ho helps normalize conversations around anxiety and depression.
