Actor and former UN member Choi Jung-won has won a court case after being accused of having an affair that allegedly led to the breakdown of another couple’s marriage. On November 25, the Seoul Family Court dismissed the lawsuit filed by a man (referred to as Mr. A) who claimed Choi had an inappropriate relationship with his wife. The court ruled in favor of Choi, rejecting all claims and ordering Mr. A to cover the legal expenses.
The dispute began when Mr. A accused Choi of having an affair with his wife (referred to as Ms. B), who is also a friend of Choi’s. Mr. A claimed that Choi took his wife to the Han River and brought her to his home in May 2022, suggesting infidelity. However, the court found insufficient evidence to support the claims. Choi, sharing the verdict via Instagram, said the decision confirms that he was not involved in an affair and condemned the spread of false rumors and speculation.
Why it matters
Choi Jung-won emphasized the personal and professional damage he suffered during the two-year legal battle. He also revealed that Mr. A was previously fined ₩3 million for defamation and blackmail related to the same case. Choi plans to take legal action against further false claims and stated that the meeting in question was a casual encounter with no inappropriate behavior. Meanwhile, Mr. A has stated he plans to appeal the ruling, continuing to maintain Choi was responsible for destroying his family.
